The re-invention of ME ^_^

I'm constantly re-inventing myself. I sometimes don't even realize that I'm doing it but I get easily bored with things in general. Once something has lost my interest it would take a lot for me to go back to whatever it was that lost my interest. With that said, I begin the first 2011 blog post.

I'm quite aware that we are 12 days into the new year but even Conan just recently had his first show of 2011. #TEAMCOCO.
Anyway.

What's been up with me?
LOTS!
I have been working a little less lately, by choice. I have taken off lots of days since Christmas. This was because I had some personal stuff to do and also I've been attending bar tending courses.

I knew I was going to go to bar tending school since the middle of December. Actually, the Bryant Park post I had put up was the day I went to visit the bar tending school. The school is actually close by from Bryant Park.

Well, here's the story. In 2007 I bar tended for about a year at the SugarFactory. I had no clue what I was doing but I learned relatively quick. I was originally hired to watch the registers at the bar. However, when your standing at a bar literally watching the registers, it can get boring. Also, when a customer would see me not doing anything they would ask me for different drinks and beer. I would tell them that I'm not the bar tender and they have to wait until a bar tender is free. Their response would always be something along the lines of "Aw c'mon you don't have to be a bar tender to sell me a Corona" or "Please just put some Grey Goose in a cup and some then some cranberry juice on top and that's all please". They would literally be begging me. So after a while of hearing this, I started preparing simple drinks. Each night I learned more and more. Even the bar tenders working there would appreciate it because they were ridiculously busy. So after a while of doing simple drinks I started learning more complicated drinks. I had so much fun working as a bar tender!

I also was attending school at the time so I would be working as a bartender in a busy night club 9PM - 6AM and then rush home to change for school, which was at 9AM. On some days I would get out of school at 5PM to rush home and get a few hours of sleep before I had to be bar tending again at 9PM. But still I had so much fun with all the obstacles.

The SugarFactory eventually shut down due to lease problems. I googled the club and found two good sites showing the nightclub.

HERE and HERE.

The best site with photos of the actual club and bar is here.

The club was actually owned and ran by my boyfriend's uncle. This is how I got to working there.

So, all this to say that I recently started thinking about how much I loved bartending that I decided to go get a better training. I still remember lots of drinks that I made but attending the New York Bartending School, honestly has helped in many ways.

A few reasons why I chose this particular school:
-It is the only bartending school recognized by the Dept. of Education.
-They let you come back anytime in your entire life and re-take the course, brush up on your training or just plain practice your mixing.
-They have the best job placement assistance I've seen in any school not just a bartending school.
-When you graduate from their school, they let you go and practice in up to four actual bars- sort of like an internship- but for bartending.
-All of the graduates are certified in responsible alcohol service by the National Restaurant Association.
-I was able to visit the school and sit in on a class to see what they actually learn.

Honestly, I don't want to sound like a paid promoter for the school or a TV commercial but it is the only way to go if you want to go to a bartending school. I really am not disappointed by anything.

I do have 3 more classes left and I will be finally ready to work as a bartender.

Also the reason I am doing this is because I have always had 2 different jobs at the same time. I quit my second job in September and I've been working one job since then. I recently got the itch for a second job. So in order to maintain my work flexibility I decided to go for bar tending.

Another BIG reason for the itch for a new job is because, I've mentioned before, but in April I am planning to take a big Europe Trip to my homeland. I am planning to go to Romania where I was born. I, also, have family and friends all over Europe which I plan to visit them and take a big vacation while I'm at it.

Until then I plan to work my butt off and make a strong enough budget to cover all my expenses there.
